No matter how many safety practices we follow while shooting, things can still go wrong. For this reason, practices like always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction are of utmost importance. Such is the case regarding an issue causing Colt Manufacturing Company to issue a recent safety recall notice.

Colt Safety Recall Notice

At the root of the recall is an issue brought to Colt’s attention regarding hammers that do not meet specifications. As a result, some of the MSRs (Modern Sporting Rifles) may discharge a second round when the trigger is released, with a live round in the chamber. Accordingly, Colt has voluntarily initiated the recall.

Due to Colt’s commitment to quality and safety, Colt found the issue during routine quality testing. During the testing process, the company found the issue with the problematic hammers consequently leading to the decision. It was identified that the hammers were installed in certain MSRs manufactured beginning March 5,2021. Correspondingly, if you purchased your MSR before March 5, 2021, it is not affected by this recall.

The recall includes the following models: AR15A4, CR6700A4, CR6920, CR6920-EPR, CR6920MPS-B, CR6921, CR6921-EPR, CR6933, CR6933-EPR, CR6960, LE6920-EPR, LE6920MPS-B, LE6920-OEM1, LE6920-OEM2, LE6920-R, LE6933-EPR, SP633784, LE6920SOCOM.

Additionally, the following serial numbers may potentially be subject to the recall:

AR-15 A4: CAR022851 – CAR023250
CARBINE: CR036354 – CR099599
CARBINE: CR713001 – CR722100
M4 CARBINE: CR716801 – CR721500
M4A1 CARBINE: CR021580 – CR022024

Fortunately, according to Colt, no injuries have been reported as a result of this issue. If your rifle is affected by this recall, Colt has committed to replacing the hammer. In addition, they state that it is a quick repair, and they will make every effort to perform the upgrade and return your rifle within fourteen days of receipt.
